Jadon Sancho looks bound for Manchester United - but it has again been claimed he favoured a move to Liverpool.

United are reported to be closing in on an agreement to sign the Borussia Dortmund star in a deal which could potentially be worth more than £100million.

It was recently suggested in Germany that the 20-year-old England ace was hoping Premier League champions Liverpool would come in for him, as they would provide him with a better chance of winning silverware.

And that claim was echoed by talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook and former Liverpool star Danny Murphy on Monday.

Murphy said of Sancho: "I did hear that his preference would be Liverpool ahead of United."

Replying to Murphy's comment, Crook said: "I heard the same and that has actually come from a family member of Jadon Sancho's that lives over here in England.

"That was before the pandemic and before Jurgen Klopp could justify spending big money on Timo Werner."

Despite his apparent preference for Liverpool, there seems to be little prospect of Jurgen Klopp's side battling Manchester United for his signature.

Like most clubs, the coronavirus pandemic has caused a big financial impact on Liverpool and boss Klopp has admitted he is unlikely to spend big money this summer.

Asked about Sancho specifically recently, Klopp ruled out a move, telling Bild: "The red shirt [of Liverpool] would suit very well. [But] I don't think such a transfer will be possible this season.

"He [Sancho] is a very interesting player. If he's coming to Liverpool I would be the most surprised of all of us."

Sancho is now expected to seal a move to Manchester United, who are still planning big business in this transfer window.

Dortmund have reportedly set United a deadline of August 10 to get a deal done ahead of the new season.
