McAuley: English youngsters don’t have enough hunger and passion

Former Liverpool academy coach, Hugh McAuley, has told talkSPORT English youngsters lack the hunger and passion to succeed in the Premier League.

He believes starlets are given too many rewards too early which see them lose focus and reckons foreign players moving to the Premier League block the pathway for local talent trying to breakthrough.

He also feels social factors are also impacting on English starlets as children choose to play computer games and watch TV instead of going out and playing football.

And McAuley, who taught Steven Gerrard as a youngster, talks about how the Reds captain developed at a young age and how his attitude helped him succeed.
