Rodriguez v Real Madrid, Courtois v Chelsea, Coutinho vs Barcelona – players who haunted parent clubs in the Champions League as Bayern Munich run riot to reach semi-finals

Philippe Coutinho had a night to remember as he sent his parent club Barcelona a timely reminder of the quality he possesses by notching a double in Bayern Munich's 8-2 demolition job over the LaLiga giants.
The attacking midfielder has been on loan with the Bundesliga champions for the past two campaigns and was granted permission to face Barca in their Champions League quarter-final clash on Friday evening.
By the time the Brazil playmaker was introduced Bayern were already home and dry; leading the contest 5-2.
But he certainly helped hammer the final nails in the coffin of his parent club as he assisted Robert Lewandowski before scoring twice himself to complete the rout.
Coutinho never settled at the LaLiga club following his £142million move from Liverpool in January 2018.
The 28-year-old was then shipped out on loan to Bayern, but they have opted against making the deal permanent this summer.
There is, therefore, mounting speculation that Coutinho will leave Barcelona on a permanent transfer ahead of the 2020/21 campaign - so his parting gift to the side could be helping dump them out of the Champions League!
He wouldn’t be the first player to come back and haunt their parent club in Europe, and marvelbet369.com takes a look at the times it’s happened before.
James Rodriguez - Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid (2018)
The Colombia international was a star at the 2014 World Cup where he won the Golden Boot and a transfer to Madrid soon followed.
After three seasons at the Bernabeu, he joined Bayern on a two-year loan spell and started to rediscover his form in Germany.
The two teams met in the Champions League in 2018 and Rodriguez set up teammate Joshua Kimmich for the opening goal in the first leg of the semi-final.
Real Madrid came back to win 2-1 and the second leg ended 2-2, which saw the Spanish side go through to the final and beat Liverpool.
Kingsley Coman - Bayern Munich vs Juventus (2016)
Bayern are a big fan of taking players on loan from other European giants and it came back to haunt Juve in 2016.
Their Round of 16 clash went to extra time at the Allianz with Thiago putting the German club up 5-4 on aggregate in the 108th minute.
Coman, who had come off the bench, wrapped up the tie with another goal just two minutes later to dump his parent club out of the competition.
Patrick Roberts - Celtic vs Man City (2016)
Roberts has been a City player since 2015 but only made three first-team appearances.
He has spent much of his time out on loan, including two-and-a-half seasons with the Scottish club.
The two met in the Champions League group stages at the Etihad and the attacker scored a fantastic solo goal on his way to being named man of the match as the two sides drew.
Despite this display in front of his manager Pep Guardiola, Roberts has never had his chance in the City team.
Talisca - Beşiktaş vs Benfica (2016)
The midfielder came up against his Portuguese parent club in the Champions League group stages and did something special.
The Brazilian lashed in a free-kick from 30-yards as he earned the Turkish club a point.
Talisca stayed with Besiktas for two seasons where he scored a remarkable 37 goals in 80 games before moving to the Chinese Super League.
Thibaut Courtois - Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea (2014)
The goalkeeper spent three seasons on loan with Spain before returning to Stamford Bridge to replace Petr Cech.
There was controversy when the two teams met in the Champions League semi-final in 2014, though, as Chelsea had inserted a clause that would mean Atletico had to pay around £5million extra if Courtois played in both legs.
UEFA ruled that the clause was ‘null, void and unenforceable’, which allowed the goalkeeper to play.
Courtois played well over the two legs and conceded just once seeing Atletico through to the final but they lost to rivals Real Madrid.
Fernando Morientes - Monaco vs Real Madrid (2003)
The striker became surplus to requires with Madrid and was sent out on loan to Ligue 1 Monaco for the 2003/04 season.
He enjoyed a superb season hitting 22 goals in all competitions but it was in the Champions League where he really thrived.
Morientes scored nine times in 12 games on their route to the final - where they lost to Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.
Monaco met Real Madrid in the quarter-finals where he scored in both legs to send his side through on away goals.
