Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has confirmed that Chelsea target Kai Havertz has expressed a desire to leave the Bundesliga club this summer.
Havertz, 21, has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, with Leverkusen slapping a £90m price tag on the highly-rated Germany international's shoulders.
Kai Havertz to Chelsea: How Blues could look with ‘Zidane-like’ midfielder and ‘perfect modern forward’ next season
“It was always clear that there would be talks as soon as the Europa League ended for us,” he
“Kai has expressed a wish to take the next step. Whether this will work in the near future or not, I can’t say at the moment.”
He did not mention whether Chelsea or Manchester United were potential frontrunners, but added: “There are several clubs who want to include Kai Havertz in their future plans.”
Havertz found the target in what could have been his farewell appearance for Leverkusen in their Europa League quarter-final clash against Inter Milan on Monday night.
However, his powerful strike beyond Samir Handanovic wasn’t enough for Peter Bosz's side as they suffered a 2-1 defeat in Dusseldorf, with Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukaku on target for the Serie A giants.
