Lionel Messi looks devastated in leaked dressing room photo after Barcelona’s 8-2 humiliation at hands of Bayern Munich

Lionel Messi looked every bit a beaten man in the dressing room after Barcelona's 8-2 thrashing by Bayern Munich on Friday night.

The German champions humiliated Barca in their Champions League quarter-final, tearing them apart with four goals in each half.

Thomas Muller struck first for the German champions before David Alaba's own goal levelled the match.

Then Ivan Perisic, Serge Gnaby and Muller put Bayern in a commanding lead at half time.

Luis Suarez pulled one back after the break, but it had little impact.

Joshua Kimmich, Robert Lewandowski and a brace from Barca loanee Philippe Coutinho ensured an astonishing final scoreline of 8-2.

Messi could only stand and watch in dismay as Barca capitulated.

After the full time whistle, he retreated to the dressing room, though one picture was leaked which showed his reaction alongside goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

It is unclear what will happen next with the 33-year-old, who has been linked with a move away from the Nou Camp.

Rio Ferdinand told BT post-match: "Another big question now is what’s Messi thinking?

"What’s he thinking in that dressing room going home tonight?

"Given the performances and the way that squad is looking at the moment in comparison to other teams around Europe. It’s a big question he’ll be thinking about.

"Has he got the time to sit there and wait? Football is a game that comes and goes very quickly in your life.

"These next two years where he’s still going to have the power to influence games the way he does.

"Is he going to want to be doing that not really competing for the big titles I don’t know?"
