Bayern Munich win sixth European Cup as Kingsley Coman nets winner against former club Paris Saint-Germain in Champions League final

Kingsley Coman’s second-half goal saw Bayern Munich secure a 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the 2020 Champions League final.

The former PSG trainee headed in Joshua Kimmich’s cross in the 59th minute to ensure Bayern lifted a sixth European Cup.

Paris-born Coman made just three league appearances for the French giants before leaving for Juventus in 2014 - and he came back to haunt his old club six years later.

The showdown burst into life in the 18th minute when Kylian Mbappe played in Neymar, who had a low-driven shot well saved by Manuel Neuer.

Bayern replied with a first chance of their own as Robert Lewandowski hit the post after a smart, quick turn in the box.

PSG fired back when Ander Herrera’s clever pass found Angel Di Maria, but the Argentine fired over on his weaker right foot.

Bayern were forced into a defensive change when Jerome Boateng appeared to pick up a muscular injury and was replaced by Niklas Sule in the 25th minute.

The Bundesliga champions did not let the Boateng injury derail them, however, as Lewandowski had a close-range shot saved by Keylor Navas seven minutes later.

Bayern drew first blood just before the hour mark when Kimmich’s cross found an unmarked Coman, who headed past Navas.

The Germans would have surely doubled their lead shortly afterwards if it was not for Presnel Kimpembe’s superb defensive header to stop the ball reaching Lewandowski for a tap-in.

After Bayern’s continual attacks, PSG had a golden opportunity to draw level in the 70th minute, but Neuer made another top save.

The Germany No.1 was quick off his line to deny Marquinhos after he had been found by Di Maria.

Neymar was close to forcing the final into extra time when his shot deflected agonisingly wide in injury-time.

Despite the best efforts of Neymar and Mbappe, PSG’s long wait for a first ever European Cup goes on.

Meanwhile, Bayern have become the first club to win a European Cup with a 100 per cent record in all matches.
