Refreshing Barca's first-team squad appears to be the Dutchman's priority, and he has already identified many players he wants to get rid of before October's transfer deadline.

The most high-profile of these players is Luis Suarez, the Uruguay forward, who has reportedly been told he is not needed next season and must now leave Camp Nou.

According to , Koeman phoned Suarez this morning to make him aware of his decision, and Suarez is now due to hold talks with Barca chiefs over terminating his contract in Spain.

Ivan Rakitic, the midfielder, and also defender Samuel Umtiti have similarly been told they are not part of Koeman's plans moving forward and their summer exits are also expected.

Suarez, 33, has an outrageous goal record for Barcelona, netting 198 times in only 283 games since joining from Liverpool in 2014.

He has been linked with a return to former club Ajax this summer, and talks are sure to accelerate now his Barca departure is all but confirmed. A move back to Amsterdam would require Suarez to take a huge pay cut, however, as his Barcelona salary is allegedly higher than the entire Ajax wage bill combined.

No other interest in Suarez has been reported as of yet, although Manchester United have been told to sign the former Liverpool striker and bring him back to the Premier League.

Man United should sign Luis Suarez from Barcelona this summer, says Brighton star Glenn Murray

Earlier this month, Brighton striker Glenn Murray told talkSPORT that Suarez would be a fine signing for the Red Devils, before ex-Tottenham ace Jamie O'Hara and Breakfast host Alan Brazil backed the proposed transfer as Suarez would 'add a bit of bite' to the Man United team.

“If you threw Suarez into Manchester United’s team," began O'Hara, "all of a sudden you’re thinking, ‘wow!’"
