Thiago Alcantara is 'one of the best' all-round midfielders in world football, according to Danny Murphy, who hopes Liverpool can bring the star to Anfield this summer.

The Spaniard made perhaps his final Bayern Munich appearance on Sunday night as he helped the German giants to a 1-0 win over PSG to lift the European Cup.

Thiago put in another influential performance ahead of his proposed summer transfer, with the Reds favourites for his signature.

Bayern manager Hansi Flick discussed the midfielder's future following Sunday's final triumph, insisting neither he nor Thiago knows where he will play next season.

Arsenal have also been linked with an interest, but Liverpool are said to have agreed personal terms over a deal for the 29-year-old.

And, if the transfer can be done, former Liverpool ace Murphy says he'd be a great fit in Jurgen Klopp's team, even if competition for places in the German’s three-man midfield is already high.

“I’m a fan of his anyway, but Thiago in the middle of the pitch for Bayern, pfff, unbelievable performance,” the former Redman told talkSPORT host Jim White.

“Brilliant, he was, on and off the ball.

“What a signing he’ll be if Liverpool get him.

Despite making it clear he will leave Bayern this summer, Thiago remained a key part of Flick's first-team and played a huge role in their Champions League run, as the Germain giants won the European Cup without losing a single game

“He can play in a four, holding like he did last night, because he’s tenacious enough and he’s athletic enough.

“He reads the game really well and he dictates tempo, he can slow the game down and speed it up, and not many players can do that.

“He can also play ahead of someone holding, like Fabinho, and get forward a bit more and play the through balls and be more creative.

Dietmar Hamann would be 'surprised' if Thiago Alcantara doesn’t move to Liverpool this summer

“He’s one of the best.

“The thing is that Liverpool midfield has been amazing, really, and it’s so competitive – they’ve got six players already for the three positions.

“Henderson, Wijnaldum and Fabinho are the three, who Klopp normally plays in the big games, then you’ve Got Milner, Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain as back-up!”
