Manchester United closing in on signing of Donny van de Beek from Ajax in £35million deal

Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek.

Van de Beek, 23, had been linked with Real Madrid and Barcelona, while Tottenham were also credited with an interest in the Dutchman.

But talkSPORT understands United are now on the verge of securing his signature for an initial fee of £35million. Various add-ons could potentially take the deal up to £40m.

Van de Beek has agreed a five-year contract with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and is set for a medical early next week.

The Netherlands international was left out of the Ajax squad for Saturday’s friendly against Hertha Berlin as talks with United reached an advanced stage.

Ajax coach Erik ten Haag, confirming his absence, said: “There are indeed developments that prevent him from being in the selection. We are looking at how that will end.”

Van de Beek's move to United may have been helped by the fact Ajax's chief executive is former player Edwin van der Sar.

Van de Beek has been with Ajax since he was a boy, breaking into their first-team in 2015. He's scored 41 goals in 175 appearances and has ten international caps.
