Watford may have found a replacement for Troy Deeney, by signing a striker four years older than him.

Glenn Murray, 36, has joined the Championship club on a season-long loan deal.

Deeney's future has looked uncertain since Watford were relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the 2019/20 season.

The 32-year-old recently told talkSPORT that he wouldn't push for a move away from the club he's been at since 2010.

However, Deeney admitted the decision could be out of his hands.

"This is my club, I’ve been there ten years now and I’m not going to actively look to leave or anything of that nature,” said the striker.

"I had an opportunity to go to Leicester when they just won the Premier League, obviously it was Champions League football… I never asked to leave then, so why would I ask to leave now?

"If the club decide we need to go our separate ways, it is what it is, I’m a big boy and I can take it on the chin."

Deeney was linked with a shock move to Tottenham earlier this summer, however, the player has been recently linked with West Brom, who have been promoted to the top flight.

The signing of Murray could clear the path for Ismaila Sarr to leave Watford. The Senegal international has been tipped to join Liverpool this summer.

Murray scored 111 goals in 287 appearances during two spells at Brighton.

However, he struggled for form with Brighton last term, getting just one goal and one assist in 23 Premier League appearances.

Murray will join the talkSPORT Breakfast on Thursday morning to discuss his season-long loan deal with Watford.
