‘Where did the time come from?’ – Brighton manager Graham Potter questions luck as Manchester United claim thrilling victory in 100th minute

Brighton manager Graham Potter has admitted he was left disappointed by the decision to add on extra time as the Seagulls lost 3-2 to Manchester United despite equalising in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Just five minutes were due to be played with March netting with 30 seconds to spare and making the score 2-2 at the Amex Stadium.

The drama, though, hit a level rarely seen, even in the Premier League, as the Red Devils were then awarded a penalty AFTER the full-time, seven minutes into injury time.

A Harry Maguire header hit the stray arm of Neal Maupay and while it initially wasn't given, VAR intervened when Chris Kavanagh called time on the enthralling match.

Bruno Fernandes stepped forward to give United a 3-2 win, despite Brighton fully deserving at least a share of the spoils.

And Potter couldn't hide his frustration at how much time was played after March's goal.

"It's a first for me, that's for sure," he explained to talkSPORT's Sam Matterface. "It's a new experience after think we had scored with the last kick of the game but, obviously, I'm not responsible for the time.

"If the referee deems there is more time then there is more time, I guess, but I thought we scored with the last kick so obviously we're very disappointed to say [the least]."

"Of course, we were wanting the whistle to be blown because I think we'd got the reward for what had been a fantastic performance and when you put so much into the game like we did you want to end it there and go, 'okay, it's a draw'.

"I'm not sure where the time came from, I'm not responsible for that. It's not my thing. I just look at the team and I thought the team were amazing today.

"We have to focus as much on that as much as we're so, so disappointed with not taking anything from the game.

Brighton midfielder Leandro Trossard, who hit the post three times during the game certainly agreed with his manager.

"Unbelievable, the feeling I can't describe, we were the better team today," he claimed. "We deserved at least a point, it's a shame. There were five minutes added on and we played at least seven.

"Sometimes it's just not your day."

Potter could at least take heart in his side's excellent display, which saw them hit the woodwork on five occasions. Even if it made defeat harder to take.

He added: "It feels like it's a sore one, and once again that's an understatement, but again the performance of the players was fantastic and anyone watching the game knows how good we were today.

"Our challenge is to put this behind us, this disappointment that we're all facing, and try to maintain that level of performance because if we do that then we're going to pick up some points and we're going to win matches.

"Over the course of the game I can't be anything but proud of the players. They did everything asked of them.

"It's a really, really disappointing day for us in terms of the result but a very proud one in terms of the performances."
