How Manchester United could line up with Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles as Red Devils sign PSG goal hero and Porto left-back on transfer deadline day

Donny van de Beek appeared to be Manchester United's only marquee signing of the summer, but two more big-name stars were recruited on a busy deadline day for the Red Devils.

And the signings couldn't come quick enough considering the Tottenham 'shambles', as Patrice Evra called it.

Left-back Alex Telles was first through the door, joining from Porto on a four-year contact.

And then, with one hour to go before the transfer window slammed shut, the Red Devils announced the hotly-anticipated signing of Edinson Cavani on a free transfer.

Cavani, who has scored 341 goals in his incredible club career, had been a free agent since his contract with Paris Saint-Germain ended earlier in the summer.

He made his name at previous club Napoli and also has 50 goals for his native Uruguay to his name, and he penned a two-year deal with United.

The veteran forward adds to Man United's already dangerous attack, with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and others already among the ranks.

The Cavani deal came as something of a surprise given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems pretty settled on making Rashford, Martial and Greenwood his front three, while back-up options Daniel James and Odion Ighalo can be used in their absence.

The Telles deal is less surprising, however, with pundits all summer long calling for United to add a left-back to compete with Luke Shaw.

England international Shaw is United's only recognised senior left-back, and adding the Porto ace will ensure Solskjaer has upgraded one of the clear weak spots in his squad.

Plus, Telles is a remarkable attacking force and will benefit United at both ends of the pitch.

Here, marvelbet369.com has looked at how Manchester United could line-up with the two players.

Writing in The Times, talkSPORT co-host Tony Cascarino believes the younger Man United players can learn from the experienced Cavani.

"If I were Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, I would be hoping the Uruguayan turns out to be another Gary McAllister at Liverpool," he wrote.

"McAllister was 35 when he joined Liverpool on a free transfer in 2000 and played an influential role in the development of Steven Gerrard, then only 20. 'He took a shine to me and helped me a lot to progress as a footballer on the pitch but also how to be humble and be a decent person off it,' Gerrard said in 2015.

"There is a lot to said about signing an experienced professional. Cavani’s work rate is excellent and Mason Greenwood can learn plenty from training with him."
