Manchester United legend Paul Scholes named interim Salford City manager as Graham Alexander sacked despite unbeaten start to League Two season

Paul Scholes has been appointed interim manager of Salford City.
The League Two club sacked Graham Alexander on Monday morning, despite sitting fifth after a strong start to the season.
Salford are unbeaten in their opening five league matches, but threw away a two-goal lead to Tranmere on Saturday.
Alexander was appointed Salford boss in May 2018 and won promotion to League Two in his first season in charge, before going on to achieve a top-half finish in the fourth tier last term.
Now Scholes, who is co-owner of Salford along with Peter Lim and former Manchester United teammates Gary and Phil Neville, Nicky Butt and David Beckham, will take temporary charge while the club look to appoint a new manager.
A Salford statement said: “The club met with Graham this morning and after discussion have agreed to part company.
“The club would like to thank Graham for his contribution and all his hard work.
“In his first season he guided the team to Wembley, resulting in promotion to League Two and in his second season he reached the Leasing.com Trophy final. The club would like to wish him all the best and success in the future.

“First team coach, Chris Lucketti, will also leave the club.
“Paul Scholes will act as the interim head coach while the club looks to secure a new manager.
“Warren Joyce, currently in isolation, will join Paul once he is able to."
Scholes’ only managerial experience came in a 31-day spell with Oldham last year.
The 45-year-old left his boyhood club over alleged broken promises and won just one of his seven games in charge.
