Chelsea FC news: Guus Hiddink glad the club are talking to John Terry about a new deal

Outgoing Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink insists it is good news the club are talking with club captain John Terry about a one-year contract.

The defender was due to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer with his contract set to expire, despite wanting to remain in west London, where he has plied his trade since 1998.

An offer has been made to Terry, 35, but according to the player is a ‘different role’, which he wishes to consider before making a decision.

And Hiddink has insisted the player can still give a lot to the team, despite his age.

He said: "It's good when both parties start to talk.

"Personally I hope they manage to come to a solution. That is my personal opinion.

"He's still physically fit and mentally very fit, so he can contribute a lot wherever he wants to play."
