Liverpool got a huge let-off in their Premier League clash at Manchester City as Kevin De Bruyne inexplicably put a penalty wide just before half time.

The brilliant Belgian was given the opportunity to put his side in front after Joe Gomez was penalised for handball. But City's star man couldn't oblige as he dragged the resulting spot-kick wide of goal.

It was a very surprising moment given De Bruyne's usual calmness in front of goal but failing to score from twelve yards against Liverpool is a feeling Man City fans are all-too familiar with.

They had a huge chance to claim a first win at Anfield since 2003 as Pep Guardiola's side were given a late penalty against the Reds in October 2018.

Gabriel Jesus was due to take the penalty but Riyad Mahrez stepped up on Guardiola's orders. But the manager's last-second decision didn't pay off as the Algerian blazed the ball well over the bar.

Incredibly, De Bruyne's miss is the first Premier League penalty to completely miss the target since that match in October 2018.

However, De Bruyne did well to assist Jesus, who bagged City's equaliser after Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead with a penalty of his own.

Jesus' goal also brought up a weird Premier League stat as it was the most number of passes (19) in the build up to a Premier League goal against Liverpool since September 2017.

That goal was also scored by Jesus and assisted by De Bruyne with the same amount of passes used. Spooky!
