FC Lorient groundsman, 38, tragically dies after a floodlight bar falls on him in freak accident after Ligue 1 club’s defeat to Rennes

A man working as a groundsman for Ligue 1 side FC Lorient has tragically died after a floodlight bar on the stadium fell on him in a freak accident.
The 38-year-old man, , was rushed to Scorff Hospital by air ambulance at approximately 7:45pm local time following Lorient's 3-0 home defeat against Rennes on Sunday evening.
He was carrying out his usual duties after full-time, when a ramp used to maintain the heating of the pitch fell on him.
The screams of personnel around the scene sounded the alarm, as emergency services rushed to his aid but he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
Members from both teams were both stunned to learn of the accident, having come back out on to the pitch thereafter.
According to local news outlets, the man was a father of three and was volunteering for Lorient at the time of the catastrophe.
Two other groundskeeper volunteers were also taken to hospital, but were not physically injured.
The Mayor of Lorient, Fabrice Loher, was at the stadium at the time of the accident said: “It’s a terrible accident.
"The police from the Lorient police station have marked up the scene and an investigation is underway to understand the circumstances of the accident.”
