Man City due cash windfall from Celtic thanks to sell-on clause inserted into Jeremie Frimpong deal

Man City are set to profit from Jeremie Frimpong's move to Bayer Leverkusen after inserting a sell-on clause when he signed for Celtic in September 2019.
The 20-year-old right-back is understood to have joined the Bundesliga side for a fee in the region of £11.5million.
The Dutchman has put pen-to-paper on a four-and-a-half year deal with Leverkusen, much to Neil Lennon's disapproval.
Asked about Frimpong's departure, the Celtic boss said: “Yes, I feel a bit let down because we felt we could progress him further and we offered him a new deal which would have kept him here for another two or three years but it was down to the player’s personal ambition.
“Whether that’s the right way for him remains to be seen. For us, though, from a business point of view - and maybe from a footballing point of view as well - when a player’s mind is set like that it’s very difficult to bring him back round.
“It didn’t come as a surprise at all. This has been in the offing for the past couple of months.
"We offered the player talks for a new deal a few months back but he declined and made it clear that he wanted to leave, despite our best efforts to keep him."
Frimpong departs Celtic Park just 16 months after arriving from the Premier League side for an initial fee of £350,000 plus add-ons.
Taking City's 30 per cent sell-on clause into account, Celtic should still be left with a profit of roughly £6.3m.
