Tottenham 0-0 AC Milan (1-0): Spurs sneak through

Spurs secured their path into the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 0-0 draw against AC Milan at White Hart Lane, giving them a 1-0 aggregate win.
In a tense and nervy affair which neither side dominated Milan enjoyed the better of the chances thanks to some shaky defending from Harry Redknapp’s side.
The first came in the 24th minute when William Gallas was forced to clear off his line after Alexandre Pato had rounded Gomes and crossed for Robinho.
But Gomes took his chance to redeem himself when Pato broke through on goal but saw his effort parried away by the Brazilian goalie.
Robinho again went close when Gomes could only parry his low shot back into the area but the Spurs defence managed to get the ball clear.
Tottenham’s tactic of crossing for Peter Crouch to knock down in the box wasn’t yielding any reward leading to the introduction of Gareth Bale in the hope of nicking a vital goal but the stalemate continued.
Despite some desperate late pressure from the Italian league leaders Spurs held on to continue their European odyssey, becoming the first English team to book their place in the next round.
In the nights other game Schalke ran out 3-1 winners against Valencia, recording a 4-2 aggregate victory.
Two goals from Jefferson Farfan and one from Mario Gavranovic were on target for Felix Magath’s side, while Ricardo Costa netted a consolation for the Spaniards.
