Ivan Toney netted a record-breaking 31st goal of the season to send Brentford on their way to a convincing 3-1 Championship win over Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

The 25-year-old striker, who has eclipsed Glenn Murray's record of 30 in a single campaign, pounced on a loose ball eight yards out to touch it past City goalkeeper Dan Bentley and tap into an empty net after 57 minutes.

It caps off a stunning season for Toney, who has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs after starring in his first campaign for the Bees.

Chelsea, West Ham and Scottish Premiership giants Celtic have all been linked with an interest in the 25-year-old.

Signed from Peterborough United last summer for a mere £5million, it is claimed it would now cost any interested club £35m to sign Toney this summer thanks to his outstanding scoring form.

After Toney's opening goal, Brentford substitute Bryan Mbeumo then made it 2-0 when he capped a slick move by firing into the roof of the net after 78 minutes.

Sergi Canos then added a third when he shot home at the far post five minutes later.

City sub Louis Britton marked his debut by netting with a low drive three minutes from time, but it was no more than a consolation for his outplayed team.

Brentford's win cemented their position in third, behind champions Norwich and second-place Watford.

The club will now be hoping Toney continues his incredible scoring form into their post-season campaign, as they prepare for the play-offs and possible promotion to the top flight.
