If Harry Kane were to sign for Manchester United, he could turn them into Premier League title contenders.

That’s the view of former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp who joined talkSPORT this morning to discuss the star striker’s future.

Reports broke last night that claimed Kane had told Spurs he wished to leave this summer.

The 27-year-old is said to be unhappy with the lack of trophies won by the club during his time there.

Chelsea, Man City and Man United all emerged as immediate contenders to sign him.

And Redknapp believes the red half of Manchester could have the most to gain by signing him.

“I would think if you wanted to win trophies you’d have to go to Man City or Liverpool. They’d be the two, but he could turn Manchester United into title winners,” he told talkSPORT Breakfast.

“He’s that good, with the goals he’d bring, they wouldn’t be far off it. They weren’t far off it this year.

“He’s going to be a great signing for somebody. He’s a great lad, fantastic professional, an absolute gem to work with.

“He just gets on with it, he’s a great trainer and would be amazing to have at your football club.”

Kane is by far Tottenham’s best player and even if they can get the desired £150million for him, there’s no guarantee the replacements will fill the void.

Just look at the way the club spent the £89million they got for Gareth Bale back in 2013.

Losing Kane also may have a detrimental effect on some of the players who are still at the club, who may start to question the club’s ambition.

When asked if Kane’s departure will affect other players, Redknapp said: “Yeah it would do. Son would be one. A lot of them, let’s be honest, have not had great years and they’re not going to do any better than Tottenham.

“Some of them are quite lucky to be at Spurs. Spurs are a big club, you look at their training ground, it’s incredible, their stadium - it’s all in place.

“They fell away this year and I thought they had a squad that could challenge for the title, but they have had a bad year and it’s turned into a disappointing season.

“If they get the right manager now, Brendan [Rodgers] would be top of their list and if not then Roberto Martinez I think would be a runner for the job.

“They get the right man in, it’s all there. What a great job for a manager to take.

“A lot of them, I don’t think they are going to be in a position and to say ‘if he’s going then I’m going’. They’d say back ‘where are you going to go? You’re lucky to be here’. That’s what I’d say to them.”
