Simon Jordan has questioned the inclusions of Raheem Sterling and Trent Alexander-Arnold in England’s provisional 33-man Euro 2020 squad.

Gareth Southgate named a huge squad on Tuesday, which he will cut to 26 men next week.

Liverpool right-back Alexander-Arnold was left out of the England squad for their March games, while title-winning Man City star Sterling has endured an indifferent campaign.

Despite scoring 14 goals in all competitions this season, Sterling has not been a regular starter for Man City due to the outstanding form of Phil Foden.

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold’s defensive capabilities have come under-fire as Liverpool failed to successfully defend their Premier League crown.

Former Man City midfielder Trevor Sinclair believes Sterling has been selected for England because Southgate ‘trusts’ him.

He told talkSPORT on Wednesday: “With Raheem it’s been more evident because Phil Foden’s been so superb.

“He’s not been playing for Manchester City. So there is an argument to say you could question whether he should be in the squad.

“But it’s never going to happen because Gareth trusts him. He’s done it before at that level.”

However, in response to Sinclair’s comments, former Crystal Palace owner Jordan claimed Sterling, who has been capped 61 times for England, is in the squad on reputation only.

The White and Jordan host said: “Raheem Sterling’s in there on reputation. He’s not in there on form.

“His form has been touch and go this season because he’s been in and out of the side.”

Meanwhile, Jordan has suggested Alexander-Arnold could become a ‘liability’ in bigger games for England.

He said: “In the same way that Trent Alexander-Arnold has got in the side.

“To some extent, he’s in there on perception because defensively there are still a lot of questions to be asked.

“The big question about him was, as we go deeper into the tournament and play better opposition, doesn’t he become a bit of a liability with his defensive capabilities?”
