Tottenham are reportedly locked in talks with Mauricio Pochettino about a sensational return to the club - but Simon Jordan is far from convinced about the potential appointment.

claim the Paris Saint-Germain boss has already shown a willingness to go back to Spurs - just 18 months after being ruthlessly axed by chairman Daniel Levy.

Pochettino is said to have struggled to settle into life in the French capital, although it will be a 'very difficult' deal for Spurs to conclude, according to the same outlet.

And former Crystal Palace owner believes the north London side should steer clear of making a sentimental appointment to replace Jose Mourinho.

“That's the bland leading the bland I'm afraid," Jordan told talkSPORT. "Daniel Levy going backwards to someone that left for good reasons and nothing has changed.

“I'm surprised at that. And I'm also surprised that Pochettino would take a job at PSG – he can't cut it there.

“We took about [Thomas] Tuchel walking through the door [at Chelsea] he has cut it. One guy walks out of PSG and walks into Chelsea and rocks them into a Champions League final and an FA Cup final.

“Another guy goes the other way and doesn't do it. It's as simple as that. It's the bland leading the bland. Very rarely do you go back somewhere and make it work."

The Argentine has endured a mixed spell at PSG to date, winning the French Super Cup and the Coupe de France, while also reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

However, he crucially failed to deliver a domestic title which is only the second time in nine seasons the French giants haven't won Ligue 1.

He added: “He didn't win anything at Spurs and he hasn't won anything of significance since he's gone to France.

“The fact of the matter is he had a Tottenham side in their pomp, the best group of players they've had in the past 15/20 years and you still managed to steal defeats from the jaws of victory in semi-finals and finals.

“And even in the league – with respect to Leicester – they had a better squad and they still couldn't win the title.

“I think Daniel is low balling this one. I think Tottenham have moved on and need to go in a different direction.”

PSG club officials are already sounding out a potential replacement for Pochettino, according to reports in Italy.

Interestingly, the Athletic also note that Tottenham players are excited by the prospect of their popular former boss returning.

Levy and Pochettino are understood to have remained on good terms since the latter's departure in November 2019, which could pave the way for a shock return.

Meanwhile, the club have released Danny Rose and goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga now both their contracts have expired.
