Euro 2016: Luka Modric is one of the top three players at Real Madrid, claims Vedran Corluka

Croatia’s match-winner Luka Modric has been hailed as one of the top three players at Real Madrid by team-mate Vedran Corluka.

Modric’s stunning first-half volley gave his nation a 1-0 win over Turkey in Group D at Euro 2016, although they should have won by more.

After a superb midfield display, which saw him control the match, fellow former Tottenham star Corluka was gushing in his praise of the player.

And even though Modric counts the likes of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos as team-mates, the defender insists his compatriot is one of the best players at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“It’s not a surprise,” told talkSPORT. “He is an amazing player. He’s in the top three players at Real Madrid and one of the best midfielders in Europe. We expect these things from him.”

Meanwhile, Corluka was happy with victory, despite his team-mates, most notably Marcelo Brozovic, Darijo Srna, and Ivan Perisic, missing a hatful of opportunities.

He added: “I think we were the better team than Turkey, especially in the second half. We had great chances but we won three points today and that is the most important thing.

“I think the most important thing is we were concentrating at the back and the whole team played very well defensively.”
