England have been backed to challenge the likes of France and Italy to win Euro 2020 by Scotland boss Steve Clarke.

Clarke and Scotland will be desperate to get one over the Auld Enemy in their Group D clash at Wembley next Friday, LIVE on talkSPORT.

However, in an interview with talkSPORT, Clarke praised the Three Lions as he labelled them one of the strongest teams in the tournament.

But England aren't the standout team to lift the Henri Delaunay Trophy, believes Clarke.

"It's a tough tournament to call," Clarke said. "There are a lot of good teams in it.

"I think the French as World Cup winners will be the favourites and rightly so. I can't see too far past the French.

"The Italians are good, recently they've been really good. And obviously England are a strong team as well. England have as much of a chance as anyone else."

Clarke has made his mark in charge of Scotland as he guided the nation to their first major tournament since the 1998 World Cup.

He's more than earned his stripes having worked as an assistant at the likes of Liverpool and West Ham and was also Jose Mourinho's no.2 in the Portuguese's first spell in charge of Chelsea.

Mourinho said Clarke has a brilliant footballing mind and the 57-year-old responded by claiming the Special One is the best manager he's ever worked alongside.

"When a coach of Jose's quality says something like that about you then you should be proud," Clarke added.

"We had great times together at Chelsea. He's a top coach, probably the best coaches I've worked with in my career so to get that kind of compliment from Jose is very pleasing."
