Christian Eriksen has been discharged from hospital after undergoing a successful operation, it has been announced.

The Denmark star survived a cardiac arrest during their Euro 2020 clash with Finland last Saturday.

It was revealed that he would have a heart-starter device fitted in.

Following a successful operation, the player can now begin his recovery at home with his family.

The Danish Football Association also said he spent some time with his teammates before heading home.

A statement read: "Christian Eriksen has been through a successful operation and was today discharged from Rigshospitalet.

"Today he also visited the national team in Helsinger and from there he will go home and spend time with his family."

Eriksen added in a statement: "Thank you for the massive number of greetings, it has been incredible to see and feel.

"The operation went well and I am doing well under the circumstances.

"It was great to see the guys again after the fantastic game they played last night.

"No need to say that I will be cheering them on Monday against Russia."

The football world was shaken up by the incident as Eriksen collapsed on the Parken Stadium pitch in Copenhagen.

But Eriksen was brought back round and taken to hospital thanks to swift work from medics.

A tribute was paid to the player during Denmark's clash against Belgium on Thursday. The match was briefly stopped as both sets of players and fans applauded him for a minute.

Denmark are currently bottom of Group B having lost both of their matches but can still advance to the last-16 if they beat Russia and other results go their way.
