Jack Wilshere has opened up to talkSPORT about his ongoing struggles to find a new club, admitting ‘nothing is happening’ in the summer transfer window.

The former Arsenal man was in a frank mood when he joined Darren Bent on the talkSPORT Breakfast to discuss his uncertain future.

The free agent says he is fully fit, in great shape and raring to go having been training with ‘a club’ during pre-season, but is still waiting for contact from a team as he looks for the next destination of his career.

Wilshere left Bournemouth in June, having been released at the end of the season following a five-month spell in the Championship.

The 29-year-old spent the 2016/17 campaign on loan with the Cherries from Arsenal and was a hit at the club, who moved in to re-sign him on a short-term contract in January.

Prior to that move, Wilshere had been without a club for six months after being released by West Ham two years into his three-year contract, which saw him make just 19 appearances.

The ex-England international is keen not to experience the same gap in action again and is hoping to join his next club soon.

But, when asked by talkSPORT pundit and former Premier League striker Darren Bent about his future, Wilshere sounded disappointed as he admitted he’s yet to receive any offers.

“Erm… woah... that’s a big question, Benty,” the former Gunner said on the talkSPORT Breakfast.

“I’ve actually had a good pre-season. I’ve been training with a club just to keep myself fit. I’m in a good place, physically. I’m 29...

“I’m waiting for the right opportunity to come up, to be honest, mate.

“But, having said that, nothing has come up at the minute and there’s nothing happening.

“I don’t know the answer to that question to be honest, mate.

“I’m just waiting. I don’t really know how long I can wait, I don’t really want to wait as long as I did last time when I left West Ham in the summer, and then I didn't get a club until January when I went to Bournemouth.

“I don’t really want to wait that long [again].

“So, hopefully, something will happen sooner rather than later.”

DREAM TEAM IS BACK!

Wilshere was a hero with fans during his career at Arsenal, where his promise and talent was stunted by injury and fitness issues.

Having joined the Gunners' academy at the age of nine, Wilshere went on to make 197 first-team appearances for the north London club.

And the midfielder joked he would return to the Emirates Stadium in a heartbeat.

Asked if he’d take a return to the Arsenal, if the Gunners came calling, WIlshere laughed: “Ahh, would I!”
