Transfer deadline day: 10 Championship players who could be in line for Premier League move late this summer

Transfer deadline day is just around the corner and that means that clubs up and down the country will be getting a little desperate to get their business done.
Premier League clubs have been scouring the market for potential additions but in a hugely frustrating market it means that clubs have been forced into doing deals at the last minute.
With travel restrictions and logistical issues potentially posing problems for signing players from overseas, clubs may be tempted into the domestic market for good value additions.
Plenty of players have made the move from the Championship to the Premier League in recent years with the likes of Nathan Collins joining Burnley from Stoke City, Michael Olise joining Crystal Palace from Reading and Adam Armstrong joining Southampton from Blackburn Rovers.
More could be on the way and with that in mind, here are 10 Championship players who could be targeted for a move to the Premier League before deadline day.
The Fulham man could be a really attractive option in the final days of the transfer window.
Adarabioyo has only been at Craven Cottage for less than a year but made quite an impression under Scott Parker last term despite suffering relegation.
At 23 years old, the player is only going to get better and certainly looks like someone with top flight credentials.
Comfortable on the ball, Adarabioyo could be a good addition for a bottom half Premier League side and if the chance to move does come up then he could be tempted to step back into the top flight at the earliest opportunity.
A player who was linked with a move to the top flight earlier this summer.
Philip Billing is a key man for Bournemouth with his technical skill and passing ability a key part of how Scott Parker’s side are shaping up this term.
Unfortunately for the Cherries the fact that they missed out on promotion last term has put them in a tricky spot.
Arnaut Danjuma has already left the club and Billing could be another option to attract late interest.
Parker won’t want to lose any more key men this summer, but ultimately it’s money that will dictate whether they can keep their players.
Arguably the Championship’s most exciting young talent.
The 20-year-old enjoyed a glorious loan spell with Lincoln City last term in which he scored 13 goals and created 14 more as the Imps narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship.
Now a regular for Nottingham Forest, Johnson is already being tipped for a move to the Premier League.
Brentford are the club who have been most heavily linked but the goalscoring midfielder is someone who could easily be a top flight regular within the next couple of years.
Perhaps he needs a full season in the Championship, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see one of the Premier League elite making an early move to snap him up.
Middlesbrough’s defensive talisman is someone who is regularly linked with a move to the top flight.
A towering central defender, Fry has really matured over recent years and is now regarded as one of the most complete centre-backs in the EFL.
At 23 years old, Fry is now ready to kick on.
Neil Warnock will be determined to keep hold of the player as a vital part of his promotion-winning plans, but if a top flight club are looking for a safe option then Fry could be just the ticket.
Tempting Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson to sell, however, could be tricky.
A player who would be a great addition for most clubs in the Premier League.
Fulham signed the left-back last summer from Wigan Athletic and he immediately showed why he was so highly rated with the Latics.
Despite suffering relegation, the 24-year-old put in some eye-catching displays last term which even led the likes of Manchester City to build a genuine interest in the player.
While that move might not be likely, it wouldn’t be a surprise if another top flight club came knocking for the attack-minded full-back.
A goalkeeper who has been heavily linked with a move away this summer.
Johnstone enjoyed a strong season for West Brom last term which led him to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020.
While he didn’t make it onto the pitch, he’s clearly regarded as one of the best keepers in the country.
The 28-year-old was linked with both Arsenal and West Ham earlier in the summer but now seems set to stay at the Hawthorns.
That said, it would be foolish to rule out the prospect of someone making a late move.
The Huddersfield Town midfielder has been attracting plenty of interest this summer.
Lewis O'Brien was a standout player for the struggling Terriers last term after scoring three and creating three more in 42 appearances for the club.
That form has continued into this term with the ball-playing midfielder scoring one in his first three games.
Leeds United and Crystal Palace have been heavily linked with a move for the player and while a deal is yet to be struck, it wouldn't be a surprise to see either side make one last effort to secure the 22-year-old.
Another player who has been heavily linked with the Premier League.
The Sheffield United man showed glimpses of quality during his two seasons with the Blades so far.
That has led to speculation that he could be heading back to the top-flight, however at this point it seems that he could be sticking around.
Berge will be a key man if the Blades are to push for promotion but if someone in the Premier League is looking for added creativity then he could be a smart addition.
The Swansea man has been heavily linked with a move away this summer.
Grimes has been a key man for the Swans in recent years as they’ve gone close in their push for promotion.
After missing out in the play-off final, speculation has been building that the 26-year-old be heading for the Premier League, however so far no move has been made.
Russell Martin will be determined to keep hold of Grimes this summer as they look to push for promotion once again, but it won’t be a surprise to see someone may a move for the ball-playing midfielder.
A player who will be looking to have a big season for Bournemouth.
David Brooks has undoubted quality and showed his worth during the club’s time in the Premier League, however since then he has struggled for consistency.
That has largely been down to fitness problems and so he’ll be hoping to kick on this term.
Brooks has the ability to play in the Premier League and so if a top flight outfit is looking for some added quality then he could be a contender.
