Newcastle and Southampton will have to wait until the summer to reprise their interest in Cheikhou Kouyate as the Senegalese defender wants to stay at Anderlecht for the remainder of the season.

Both Premier League clubs, as well as Arsenal, were linked with the centre-back earlier this year, but he stayed at Anderlecht after the Belgian club refused to lower his £7m asking price.

The 23-year-old is still looking to leave Anderlecht but insists he wants to secure his fourth Belgian league title before seeking pastures new.

He told La Derniere Heure: "I want to finish the season here. I want to win the title with Anderlecht. And if this is not the case, I still want to go. I do not want to leave this team now. I will design a transfer at the end of the season."

The same source also claims Anderlecht will seek a fee of around £5.5m for Kouyate next year.
