LISTEN: Terry Butcher's damning verdict on England's Euro 2016 humiliation at hands of Iceland

Terry Butcher joined talkSPORT on Wednesday to give his verdict on England's humiliating Euro 2016 exit.

The Three Lions' miserable major tournament record continued as they were sent crashing out at the last 16 stage by minnows Iceland.

Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, 77-cap England legend Butcher said: "I heard say Martin Glenn [the FA chief executive] say yesterday that there is a brittleness about the England team and that is very true, but there is a brittleness about their mentality.

“You look at Germany, Italy, Spain, they are a tournament team, a tournament nation. We certainly are not. We are miles away from that.

“The one thing that stood out with the England team was a lack of leaders and also a lack of experience in the team.

"When it came down to going a goal down against Iceland on Monday there was no one there to really grab everyone else by the scruff of the neck, pull them up and say: ‘come on, buck your ideas up, you have got the ability, let’s go and do it and be patient’. No one did that. They just caved in and nobody would lead them - even Roy [Hodgson] on the sidelines as well.

"There was no fight, no aggression. It was limp, very poor and we just fell away. It was embarrassing."
