Liverpool grabbed all three points with a 3-2 win in their Champions League group game at Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

The Reds raced into a two goal lead after just 13 minutes, but were pegged back to 2-2 by half-time.

Antoine Griezmann's second-half sending off turned the tide back in Liverpool's favour and a 78th-minute Mo Salah penalty won the day.

It took just eight minutes for Klopp's side to break Atleti's famed defensive resilience but there was an element of fortune to the goal.

Salah cut in from the right, skipping past Yannick Carrasco, Thomas Lemar and Koke with considerable ease before unleashing a left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area.

However, it needed a decisive touch from Geoffrey Kondogbia, deflecting the ball into the far corner to beat Jan Oblak.

The strike saw Salah achieve a club record ninth consecutive goalscoring appearance.

Barely five minutes later Liverpool were 2-0 up when Naby Keita let fly with a stunning right-footed 20-yard volley following a weak clearance.

However, Liverpool's lead was halved in the 20th minute when Koke's low strike following a corner was turned home from close range by Griezmann, although it was subject to an prolonged VAR check.

Alisson denied Greizmann when he raced clear, but the Liverpool goalkeeper could not keep him out a second time in the 34th minute when Felix skipped past Keita and rolled a pass into the France international who took one touch before directing a shot across the Brazilian.

At half-time, the teams went in level at 2-2.

Atletico began the second period on the front foot, but then the match changed in an instant.

Griezmann was dismissed for the first time in his career for accidentally kicking Roberto Firmino in the head with a high challenge for the ball.

From here, Liverpool regained control and broke through again when Salah scored from the spot on 78 minutes.

Atletico were awarded a penalty themselves not long later, but this was overturned by VAR and the Reds left with all three points.
