Allan Saint-Maximin has been one of Newcastle’s key players since he moved to Tyneside from Nice in 2019 and, finally, he might be joined by some more superstars at St James’ Park.

Since moving to England, the 24-year-old has wowed fans across the country with his dribbling, skills, and designer headbands.

He has struggled with injuries at times, however, this season he seems to be back to his best, scoring two goals and assisting three in Newcastle’s opening eight games.

Whilst he hasn’t forgotten Steve Bruce - the manager that brought him to the club - the Frenchman admits that he is excited about the future, after the club's Saudi-led takeover

Despite currently being in the relegation zone, Saint-Maximin has lofty ambitions for the Magpies, stating that ‘new things and great things are coming.’

“To fight for the top, to be honest, is difficult because there are so many great teams with money,” he said.

“But everyone knows we have to be patient and we have to find the right players.

“So many teams try and have good money and build and make a good team, they try to do everything to win the Champions League but it doesn't always happen at that moment.

“We know we are far away from this, but new things and great things are coming.

“People at the club know more than me at what they have to do. We just believe and trust because I'm sure they will do the best things they can do for the club.

“I'm just going to wait and see the people and the supporters smile about what's going to happen.”

At times, Saint-Maximin has stood out like a sore thumb when wearing black and white, frequently being on a different level to his teammates.

Many have questioned why the tricky winger hasn't looked to leave the club, or why bigger sides haven't tried to sign him but, according to the Frenchman, they have.

He has revealed that he has had chances to leave, but expresses his love for the Newcastle fans and hails them as one of the reasons he wanted to stay.

“I love Newcastle. I have had a lot of opportunity to leave the club, to be honest, but I always say that you have to feel comfortable and I'm really grateful for what the fans and the club give me. They really take care of me.

“I really try to do everything, and I can feel it every time when I go on the pitch. That's why I love the fans in Newcastle.

“The fans are so important for me. That's one of the reasons I decided to stay in Newcastle, and now we have the takeover.

“I want to play at the World Cup. I want to play at a good level because I have ambition. I cannot just want to stay in a team that fights to not go down.

“We know Newcastle deserve better and we know Newcastle have to be in a better position.”

He added: “We go on the pitch and it's not like the fans just stand up and clap their hands. They support a lot.

"Even when we are in a bad position - it's easy to support a club that always wins because you always have good emotion when you win every game.

“But when you have this feeling that you can maybe go down or you lose really important games, it's a different feeling, and to see the supporters always stay behind the team and behind the club, it's a really good sensation.

“That's why I say they deserve the takeover and now great things can happen now.”
