Cristiano Ronaldo has said that he and his new Manchester United teammates need time to adapt to each other, but he believes trophies are still possible this season.

The all-time footballing legend returned to the club in spectacular fashion this summer, and has since started right where he left off, scoring goal after goal.

Ronaldo has six goals in eight games since he left Juventus to rejoin United, scoring some crucial goals, including two late Champions League match-winners.

However, things haven’t gone swimmingly this season for the club, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer coming under pressure for his team’s performances.

United have looked a way off Premier League front-runners Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City so far this season, but that is down to squad turnover

"We are in a moment in my opinion that Manchester [United] do a few changes; they buy me, they buy [Raphael] Varane and [Jadon] Sancho," he said.

"The adaptation will take time, even the system of the game that we play, but I think step by step we have to put it in our mind that everything is possible.”

United are uncharacteristically trophyless in their past four seasons, yet to lift any silverware since Solskjaer arrived in December 2018.

The Norwegian has admitted now is the time after being backed in the transfer market, but one avenue has already been closed with a Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham.

Ronaldo though thinks everything is still to play for.

"I don't speak only about my individual stuff, I put the collective in first place,” he said.

“To win things as a collective, it's more easy to win individual stuff, I still think it's possible.

"Everyone should know their role. I know my role in the team, in the club… My role is to score goals, to help the team with my experience and know-how to understand the game.

"If everyone is thinking like that, sacrifice for the team, I think we will be a better team. We have fantastic supporters behind us, fantastic stadium, fantastic team, so we have to carry on like that."

Next up for United is fierce rivals Liverpool visiting Old Trafford in the Premier League with the chance to gain on their title chasing foes, or risk sinking back into the pack.
