Jesse Lingard responds to Manchester United fan who told him to ‘work harder’ when he wasn’t even on the pitch during Liverpool thrashing

Jesse Lingard has revealed what an angry Manchester United fan yelled at him while he was warming up at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The England international watched on from the sidelines as the Red Devils suffered a 5-0 thrashing to Liverpool.
Fans were understandably furious with the scenes unfolding inside Old Trafford, with many leaving even before the half-time whistle had gone.
There were boos at both half-time and the end of the game as pressure is mounting on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
A video on social media quickly went viral showing Lingard turn around and tell supporters: "I’m not even on the pitch."
The caption to the video said the midfielder was ‘getting abused’ by fans as he warmed up by the corner flag, prompting the response.
Lingard cleared up what happened, but insisted he was not getting abused.
He : “It wasn’t abuse! He said ‘work harder’ like I’m not already doing that day in day out! And I said ‘I’m not even on the pitch’ end of!!”
Lingard wasn’t the only Manchester United player to send a message to the fans after the game.
Cristiano Ronaldo took to Instagram after the woeful defeat to say the supporters deserve better than this.
He wrote: Sometimes the result is not the one we fight for. Sometimes the score is not the one we want.
“And this is on us, only on us, because there’s no one else to blame.
“Our fans were, once again, amazing in their constant support. They deserve better than this, much better, and it’s up to us to deliver. The time is now!”
