Man City lose third straight Women’s Super League home game for first time ever as Chelsea thrash them with ‘something not quite right’ at Gareth Taylor’s side

Man City are going through a torrid time in the Women's Super League after suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat to Chelsea at home.

For the first time in their history they have suffered a third straight defeat at home leaving the club in the bottom half the table and only seven points clear of bottom placed side Leicester City.

Losing 4-0 to the Blues would have hurt City deeply especially after the success they had last season.

Finishing in second place, manager Gareth Taylor gave the club much to be excited about going into this season.

However it's been the total opposite for his side who look further away than ever from challenging Emma Hayes' side.

Goals from Jessie Fleming, Samantha Kerr, Fran Kirby and Magdalena Erikkson gave the visitors a comfortable win as they moved to within a point of leaders Arsenal.

City meanwhile have much to do to rediscover the form that saw them go so close to the title last season.

Alongside the defeat to the Blues, Taylor's side suffered defeats to West Ham United and Tottenham Hotpsur which has now given them that unwanted stat of three straight losses in the league for the first time in their history.

To compound their woes, they haven't tasted a win at home in the League since the 27th March when they edged past Reading thanks to a late winner from Chloe Kelly.

The club are also suffering with injuries to several key players such as captain Steph Houghton and right-back Lucy Bronze.

With that said, whilst injuries are disruptive, they should not be an excuse and issues within the club could be the reason why they are having a poor season.

"They’ve had a lot of injuries and that has been the excuse. But I look at the players who are injured, the likes of Lucy Bronze, Steph Houghton and Ellie Roebuck would make a difference." Leeds United forward Lucy Ward told talkSPORT.

"But these are good players out there, there is a reason why they aren’t getting results. There’s something not quite right about City at the moment and I can’t put my finger on it.

“As a manager, you have to take responsibility for the team you put out and the results you get. That’s the way football works.”
