Rangnick now looks set to bring those talents over to England, with United ready to appoint the 63-year-old on a six-month interim coaching contract, before moving him upstairs in a consultancy role.

It could be a masterstroke for the struggling Premier League giants, with the German set to bring his tactical and transfer expertise to Old Trafford and could pave the way for some stunning signings.

Handing Rangnick the reins in a technical position has proved a genius move for the likes of Hoffenheim and Leipzig, taking newly-established minnows to the Champions League in record time.

A huge part of Rangnick finding an edge on his rivals has been a global scouting network that has procured some of the world’s very best players, of which United may be about to enjoy the benefits…

After years of hopping around lower-league German sides, Rangnick finally found a home with autonomy in 2006 when village club Hoffenheim decided to let him run the ship.
