The second half was delayed by five minutes due to heavy snowfall which forced the groundstaff at the stadium into a mammoth effort to clear the pitch during the break.

With that fine work completed, a first half goal from Ilkay Gundogan was enough to push Pep Guardiola’s side into second spot, before Fernandinho wrapped up the points with a late effort.

Manuel Lanzini did score a late consolation but it was too little, too late for the visitors.
