Manchester United legend Patrice Evra calls Robert Lewandowski’s Striker of the Year award ‘poo poo’ and created to ‘keep people happy’ after Bayern Munich striker missed out on Ballon d’Or to Lionel Messi

Patrice Evra has rubbed salt into the wounds of Robert Lewandowski after he failed to win the 2021 Ballon d’Or.
Not only did the Bayern Munich striker get pipped to the inaugural award by Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi, Evra has called the award he did win - the Striker of the Year - ‘poo poo'.
Lewandowski enjoyed a superb 2021, having won yet another league title with Bayern and also beating Gerd Muller’s haul of 40 goals in a Bundesliga season.
However, Messi was awarded the Ballon d’Or and the Polish forward was awarded the new Striker of the Year prize.
Not only did Lewandowski not win this year’s award, but he also failed to win last year’s, despite another fantastic campaign, after it was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Even Messi insisted that Pole deserved at least one Ballon d’Or.
The former Barcelona man said as he collected his trophy: “Robert, you deserve your Ballon d’Or. Last year, everyone was in agreement to say that you were the big winner of this award.
“Hopefully France Football will give you the 2020 Ballon d’Or. We all believe you deserved it and I hope you can have it at home.”
However, Evra wasn’t too happy with the award Lewandowski did win - the Striker of the Year.
Evra tweeted: “When [France Football] have to create a poo poo award to keep people happy when they feel guilty. #ilovethisgame #positive4evra”
