Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick will be hoping to win a trophy before the end of his six-month tenure.

The Red Devils haven't won major silverware since lifting the Europa League in 2017 under Jose Mourinho.

But if they do end their drought, the German will want to enjoy any celebrations far more than he did back in 2016 when he guided RB Leipzig into the Bundesliga.

It was a momentous occasion for the club who were founded in May 2009 as they climbed through the football pyramid.

During the post-match celebrations following Leipzig's 2-0 victory over Karlsruhe, which guaranteed their promotion, Rangnick suffered huge embarrassment.

Former RB Leipzig striker Davie Selke led the party, wielding a comically huge glass of beer, decideding to chase down his boss before pouring the amber nectar all over him.

However, the euphoria was short-lived as Rangnick suffered an unfortunate tumble when he pulled his hamstring trying to escape, resulting in him missing his post match press conference.

Selke was questioned about the incident and he joked that he hadn't seen his stricken boss since.

“No, I’m too scared! That’s why I’m giving so many interviews, so I don’t have to go back to the dressing room. I’ll have to run away," he admitted.

“He definitely tried to run from me, which isn’t a good idea - I caught him up, I won the race. Then something happened, he probably didn’t warm up enough!”

Since the RB Leipzig promotion in 2015/16 they have cemented their status as a top-flight side that can compete for major honours, with Rangnick playing a big part.

He left that summer but returned to Leipzig in 2018, leading the club to a third-place finish in the Bundesliga, while they were also finalists in the DFB-Pokal, losing 3-0 to Bayern Munich.

But the chances of him winning a major trophy at Old Trafford seem slim given his managerial track record.

The 63-year-old has only manager to win the Intertoto cup, Bundesliga.2, the DFB-Pokal, the DFL-Supercup, DFL-Ligapokal during managerial spells with Stuttgart, Hannover and Schalke.
