Exclusive – Adkins: Simple approach is the best for Southampton

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins reckons his side’s simple approach to football is the key to their early season success in the Championship.
The Saints, who were promoted from League One last season, are top of table and looking like title contenders already.
And the former physio insists the right mix of talent and hard work in his players is paying dividends.
He told Call Collymore: “We’ve got some good, talented football players and we can play two or three different formations very comfortably and we’re trying to take it one game at a time.
“We always do that. We play one game we try and prepare for it, play it, we always debrief it, learn the lessons from it, put a blue line underneath it and move onto the next one. It’s a simple thing but it works for us.
“We’ve got some really talented football players here who work very hard for each other. They’re ultra-professionals in their attitude and the way they apply themselves and we’ve got a good team spirit.
“Now we’ve had ten games we’re very pleased to be in the position we are.”
