Exclusive – Andronikou: ‘We’ve still got some fight left in us’

Andrew Andronikou has told talkSPORT he is confident that Portsmouth can finally come out of administration despite being on the brink of liquidation.

The Pompey administrator joined Drive Time following a statement on their official website which claimed it was likely the club would be closed down after Alexandre Gaydamak ‘moved the goalposts’ on a deal to save the club.

Andronikou however is optimistic that negotiations will be back on track within the next few days, despite what the administrator described as unacceptable demands from the club's former owner.

He said: “I’m hopeful that within 24 hours we will be back on track and we can get this matter finally concluded. We’re as close to going out of administration as we are to going into liquidation so it’s such a fine balance.

“The last thing we wanted was this to come out now but it has and I’m on the radio now to actually dispel the belief that we’re going into liquidation because we’ve still got a little bit of fight left in us.”

Explaining how far there was left to go before a deal might be reached, Andronikou said: “The foundations have been laid down, we’ve got the agreement of generally all parties concerned, we’ve got one more, final obstacle and then we’ll be there.

“I’m pretty confident we’ll get to a solution on this matter and I do want to emphasise that to everybody listening. As I said all documents have now been prepared and have now been executed by two-thirds of the sides it’s just the final side we need to get them over the line.

“I’m still very hopeful that over the next 24 hours that we’ll actually be able to sit down and agree a way forward with Mr Gaydamak.”
