Exclusive – Bothroyd: ‘I’m focussed on Cardiff not England’

Cardiff striker Jay Bothroyd has told talkSPORT a call-up into the England side is not in his thoughts at the moment and he is only thinking about getting into the top-flight with his club side.

The 28-year old has been in explosive form this season, scoring 11 goals in a start which has seen the Bluebirds kept off top spot by QPR only on goal difference

Bothroyd told Goldstein & Cundy: “Playing for your country is a dream. Everyone wants to do it but that’s not what I’m focussed on right now.

“I’m focussed on playing for Cardiff and  if I keep doing well we’ll see what happens in the future. First and foremost we’re concentrating on getting to the Premiership.

“To be honest I’m just thinking about my next game playing for my club. You never know what happens in the future and I don’t want to get carried away.

“England have got loads of players to choose from in the Premiership. World-class players, people who are playing in the Champions League and the Europa League so there’s a big pool for them to choose from.

“Obviously it’s great to be mentioned in that way by your manager and pundits, but I’m not going to get carried away. I’m just going to concentrate on each game.”
