Exclusive – Austin reveals England ambitions

After joining Burnley, former Swindon Town goal machine, Charlie Austin, has told talkSPORT that he’s targeting an England call-up in the future.

The ambitious 21-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise up the leagues since his time at Poole Town two-and-a-half years, and he doesn’t intend on stopping in the Championship.

The striker, who also worked as brick layer during his time in non-league football believes Burnley are the right club for him currently but wants to find himself plying his trade in the top four of the Premier League.

Austin told Drive Time: “It just felt like it was the right club for me and I just really wanted to go there. They’ve been in the Premier League and they’re looking like they could be contenders of going close again this year and I just wanted to be a part of that and hopefully I can score some goals.

“I need to work on a lot of things in my game to improve myself and obviously to get to the highest that I want to be at and that’s to top and hopefully playing for England or one of the top four teams in the Premier League.”

On his astounding ascent to the Championship he said: “It’s madness just to think where I was and the fact I was for my dad. That was a good learning curve for me, realising what life was like outside sport.

“That really gave me determination to see if I could get back into the professional game. Luckily enough I’ve been given the chance.”
