Bosingwa’s laugh, Adebayor’s smirk and more ‘happy’ reactions to failure

Reading and QPR's drab 0-0 may have consigned the pair to an inevitable relegation, but it was the manner in which QPR's players appeared to accept their fate that was particularly frustrating for the club's fans.

Just moments after the final whistle, Rangers' full-back Jose Bosingwa was shown reflecting on the lighter side of relegation as he laughed while meandering down the tunnel, much to the ire of fans and exiled star Joey Barton who took to Twitter to vent his frustrations.

“I can't believe QPR have just been relegated and Boswinga [sic] was walking down the tunnel laughing! Embarrassing. Show some guts man,” tweeted the midfielder, prompting a raft of responses.

However, former Chelsea man Bosingwa isn't the first man to laugh in the face of defeat, and we're sure he won't be the last. Below are just some examples of other stars to chuckle following failure.

Emmanuel Adebayor penalty miss vs. Basel
Emmanuel Adebayor has been a shadow of striker who marauded along Tottenham's front-line last season. Having seemingly entered 'full contract mode', the long-legged Togo international has appeared uninterested at times this year, seemingly happy to be tied down to a long-term deal at White Hart Lane. While his commitment has been questioned at times, Spurs fans must have been wondering what on earth was going through his head when he reacted to missing his shoot-out penalty by grinning like a Chesire cat. Cue a wave of outrage on Twitter.

David James – Wolfsburg v Portsmouth
A serial gaffe merchant, David James' comedy errors usually end in the former England international either laughing in disbelief, or projecting the blame on someone else. While he isn't exactly thrilled with the mistake which saw Portsmouth eliminated from the 2008 UEFA Cup, James looks quietly content with yet another memorable error.

England's 2010 World Cup exit
To take a look at this image, you would think that England had just celebrated a famous victory, rather than an embarrassing World Cup mauling at the hands of Germany. Following the Three Lions infamous 4-1 defeat to the 'old enemy' in 2010, leaked images from later that evening showed England's stars laughing and drinking, while Tottenham's Aaron Lennon lit up a huge cigar. Then-England boss Fabio Capello was nowhere to be seen, having reportedly backed his bags and headed off on holiday as the country wallowed in the misery of another World Cup failure.
