1) Man City 5-1 Man United: 23 September 1989
Newly-promoted City were struggling with life in the First Division and had been knocked out of the League Cup by Brentford the previous week and although United were also stuttering, no one expected this. Mark Hughes' strike was scant consolation for United as goals from Trevor Morley, Ian Bishop, Andy Hinchcliffe and a David Oldfield double piled the pressure on boss Alex Ferguson and chants of 'Fergie Out' could be heard around Maine Road. Despite United winning the FA Cup that season, both sides hardly covered themselves in league glory with City finishing one place behind their rivals in 14th.
2) Celtic 6-2 Rangers: 27 August 2000
Martin O'Neill's side were 3-1 up at half time courtesy of Chris Sutton, Stiliyan Petrov and Paul Lambert. Claudio Reyna and Billy Dodds' goals counted for nothing in the end as a Henrik Larsson double and another for Sutton thumped Rangers in a season in which the home side won the title by some distance.
3) Rangers 5-1 Celtic: 26 November 2000
It was a case of anything you can do, we can err, also do. After the Celtic Park humiliation, Dick Advocaat's men bounced back with a hammering of their own and though Henrik Larsson looked to have given the Hoops hope after captain Barry Ferguson's goal, Tore-Andre Flo, Ronald de Boer, Lorenzo Amoruso and Michael Mols made sure it was Ibrox that was buzzing this time.
4) Everton 0 Liverpool 5: 6 November 1982
It wasn't just his fabulous 'tache that made Ian Rush a legend in our eyes, it was his magnificent goal scoring prowess that wowed us too. The Merseyside derby marksman bagged four goals in this rout and is the last player to have scored a hat-trick at Goodison Park in a derby fixture.
5) Tottenham 5-1 Arsenal: 22 January 2008
The manner of this League Cup thumping was made even sweeter for Tottenham supporters considering the club had not beaten their north London rivals since 1999. Goals from Jermaine Jenas, Robbie Keane, Aaron Lennon, Steed Malbranque and a Nicklas Bendtner own goal swept the Gunners away as Spurs went onto win the competition.
6) Southampton 1-4 Portsmouth: 13 February 2010
Pompey could at least take some positives from this FA Cup fifth round tie in what was an otherwise dire season. The club's financial difficulties meant they desperately needed a win and their late goal glut in the space of 20 minutes combined with an excellent performance from goalie David James ensured they did. Their Cup run went on and were beaten by Chelsea in the final.
