Premier League Round-Up: Walcott is treble tops as Blackpool crash

Theo Walcott scored a fabulous hat-trick as Blackpool were brought crashing back down to Premier League earth at the Emirates as they were thrashed 6-0.

The newly-promoted Seasiders started the season with a magnificent 4-0 win at Wigan last week, but they were given a harsh lesson about life among the big boys by Arsene Wenger’s free scoring Gunners.

England star Walcott led the way with his first Premier League hat-trick, and further goals from Andrey Arshavin (penalty), Abou Diaby and Marouane Chamakh completed the misery for Ian Holloway’s side, who also had defender Ian Evatt harshly sent off for a foul on Chamakh.

The Gunners’ north London rivals, Tottenham, also earned their first top-flight win of the season as they beat Stoke at the Britannia Stadium. Gareth Bale scored twice – the second a stunning volley – and that was too much for the hosts, who had only a Ricardo Fuller goal to show for their efforts.

But the home side will consider themselves unlucky as Tuncay's late header looked to have gone over the line before Peter Crouch cleared, but referee Chris Foy waved away the protests of the hosts.

Staying in London and the pressure is already starting to build on new West Ham boss Avram Grant. The Israeli saw his side lose 3-0 at Aston Villa last week and there was more disappointment for Hammers fans as they crashed 3-1 at home to Bolton.

Matthew Upson’s own goal put the visitors on the way and a Johan Elmander strike made it 2-0, before Mark Noble gave the hosts same hope with a penalty ten minutes from time.

But the joy was short-lived as Elmander scored his second goal of the game to make the points safe.

Premier League new boys West Brom claimed their first win of the campaign as a goal from summer signing Peter Odemwingie earned them the three points at home to Sunderland.

Elsewhere, Craig Gardner was the toast of St Andrews as his two goals ensured the Blues beat Blackburn 1-1, while a goal from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake at Goodison cancelled out Tim Cahill’s opener as Everton and Wolves drew 1-1.
