Exclusive – Redknapp: ‘Premier League is the priority this season’

Harry Redknapp has told talkSPORT the Premier League will be Tottenham’s priority this season – not chasing Champions League success.

Spurs secured their spot in the group stages of Europe’s elite competition for the first ever time by beating Young Boys 4-0 last night, sealing a 6-3 aggregate victory.

But Redknapp has warned his side not to be sidetracked by their European adventure and says the main aim this season must be securing a top-four finish in the Premier League again.

“We’ve got to make sure we don’t fall away in the Premier League,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

“It’s important we keep picking up league points. We want to make sure we don’t get sidetracked completely from the Premier League, that has really got to be our priority - to have another good season in the Premier League.”

Spurs will discover who they are to face in the group stages this evening when the draw takes place in Monaco, and Redknapp admits he is desperate to avoid Real Madrid and reigning European champions Inter Milan.

He added: “In an ideal world you certainly wouldn’t want to get Real Madrid or Inter Milan. They will be fantastic games to look forward to but, in terms of getting any further in the competition, it would make it very, very difficult.”
