Chelsea confirm Lampard out of Blackpool clash

Frank Lampard is out of Chelsea's clash against Blackpool on Sunday but Carlo Ancelotti hopes to have him back for the Carling Cup tie against Newcastle next week.

Lampard missed Chelsea's win over West Ham last week and the recent England internationals after undergoing surgery on a hernia injury.

And Sunday's match at home to high-flying Blackpool has come too quickly for the England midfielder.

Ancelotti said: "It is too early for Lampard. He is not able to train but he should be ready for next week.

"We don't want to take a risk. He needs to train again and have an individual session and he will not be able for Sunday, although he should be ready for the Carling Cup."
