Exclusive – Kennedy: ‘Liverpool have to stop living in the past’

Alan Kennedy has told talkSPORT Liverpool need to move into the future and stop living in the past.
The Anfield club is in dire straits on and off the field, with the team in the bottom three of the Premier League and a protracted ownership battle set to be fought out between the rival American camps.
Tom Hicks and George Gillett failed to deliver on their promise to build a new ground, and Kennedy insists that has to be the first priority if John W Henry wins control, even if it means ground sharing with Everton.
He told Drive Time: "We’ve got to get the stadium sorted out, and not just for financial reasons.
"We need to give the fans a stadium they can be proud of and if that means sharing with Everton, then so be it.
"Can Liverpool afford to build a 60,000 seater stadium of their own? Will the local council step up and help build that stadium?
"Everton also need a new ground and I don't have a problem with it being shared. Speaking to ex-players, we all just want Liverpool and Everton to have a new stadium they can be proud of.
"Yes, Anfield is Liverpool’s home but we have to look to the future. Liverpool sell about 27,000 season tickets and there are about 30,000 people waiting in the wings from all over the world, so why not give them a stadium to be proud of?
"I'm not saying they have to share with Everton, but if it’s viable let’s just get on with it. And if local fans aren’t too happy, then so be it.
"We’ve got to move into the future, not live in the past. And the majority of fans will be happy with that."
