West Ham chief hoping to splash the cash in January

Avram Grant hopes to have money to spend in the January transfer window despite claiming West Ham's financial situation is precarious.

David Gold and David Sullivan took over the club last January and revealed the Hammers were around £110m in the red. The situation has slightly improved since then, with Grant able to spend money this summer.

The West Ham boss splased out £4m on Mexico winger Pablo Barrera as well as £1m on Frederic Piquionne and £3m on Winston Reid in the summer transfer window. He also managed the loan signing of Inter Milan striker Victor Obinna as well as Thomas Hitzlsperger on a free.

But Grant hopes co-owners Gold and Sullivan will release more funds in January despite the club still struggling to control their debt problem.

"The situation at West Ham is not good because there is a lot of debt," Grant said. "I would be more happy with a few more million to spend but I know the situation.

"The owners are trying to do the best for the team. You must know that if the owners did not buy West Ham then West ham could have been bankrupt.

"In the future I think we will have more money to spend."
