Exclusive – Sherwood: ‘Spurs are out to end Man United’s unbeaten league run’

Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood has warned Manchester United: We're out to end your unbeaten league season.

The Red Devils have yet to lose in 20 Premier League games so far this term, but Spurs are confident they can inflict their first defeat when they host the leaders on Sunday.

Sherwood told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: "The aim is to be the first team to beat United. A point is no good to us. We need to close the gap at the top and we think we’ve got every opportunity to do that with the players we’ve got available.

"We've not seen too much free-flowing football from United this season and we hope we don’t see it on Sunday. But they know how to grind out results and they’re the best team in the division at doing it.

"But we’ve got good players and I’m sure Sir Alex Fergsuon is worried about facing Tottenham. It must be one of their toughest games for a long time."

It's still possible Spurs could have David Beckham in their squad for the clash at White Hart Lane, and Sherwood admits just having him around the training ground will be great for the club.

He added: "He’s going to come and train with us and they’re working behind the scenes to see what can be done [in terms of him playing].

"I think it will be good for everyone. People say Aaron Lennon could learn from him, but I think they could learn off each other!

"I don’t agree that Lennon’s final ball lets him down. I think it’s fantastic. There are times when it doesn’t hit the target, but there are a lot of players like that.

"When you've got exciting wingers who go past their full-back like Lennon does, sometimes there will be disappointment. But the percentage of balls that find their target is pretty good and we’re happy with him."
